DSD April 9, 2018: "Locked & Loaded" - The Brevet

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
If you enjoy the TGF Playlists, it would help us out a lot if you could share them with folks, as with the new algorithms on Facebook and Instagram, TGF is having to fight harder for traffic, so sharing the songs (articles) or lists is something you could do that can really make a difference!

Locked & Loaded - The Brevet

So-Cal indie rock band The Brevet makes their return to theguysfrom.com today (having first appeared way back in the "Tuesday Tunes" days of October 2016) with the...strangely compelling official music video for their latest single "Locked & Loaded".

Check it out, in it's strange, dance-y glory, below:

The Brevet is one of those bands that you can feel how much they dig playing music in the energy that they bring with each song. "Locked & Loaded" is a grimy, Americana-rock track that does not trend too hard into country-rock, but it has that "kicking up gravel down a dirt road in your pickup truck" kinda vibe.

A vibe I knew very well as I used to do a helluva lot of that when I was growing up.

"Locked & Loaded" is an indie rock song that should get you moving (just like the folks in the strange backyard dance-off in the video above), and I would imagine that it would be either a great party rock track with the right crowd, and an absolute riot to check out live.
It's played excellently, the layering is spot-on, the vocals are just the right balance of gruff and engaging to make you wish you knew the words right away to sing along (beyond the "whoas").
Basically what I'm saying, is if you're looking for an indie rock track with a good deal of kick, and a bit of grime, you're going to have a hard time finding one better than "Locked & Loaded".

If this is your first introduction to The Brevet, be sure to check out "Moving Mountains", the EMBERS EP (with a personal favourite of mine off of there being "Meet Me In The Night"), and keep an eye open for both their tour, and an album which is expected to drop later this year.

The March 2018 DSD Apple Music Playlist and the March 2018 DSD Spotify Playlist are now available! Once again, we are missing a few of tracks this month, those being "Dungeons" - Malik,  "EPIPHANY" by Pizzo Da LP, and "One Night in Tokyo" - The New Division (though this is due to the fact that the new album does not drop until the end of May).
Even though there are a few gaps that made constructing the list a bit tricky, I think it turned out pretty well and  I hope you will check it out and share it with folks!

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
