DSD October 16, 2017: "Here We Go Again" - Ella Grace
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Here We Go Again - Ella Grace
Debut singles are always fascinating to me. There are oh-so-many artists who start somewhere completely different than where they end up (or even where they need to be in order to actually express themselves), but occasionally you come across a debut that is everything it needs to be to both introduce and establish a sound, and that is exactly what we get from London's Ella Grace with her song "Here We Go Again".
Check out the track below:
"Here We Go Again" is an absolutely beautiful, and heart-rending folk song that largely lives and dies on Grace's beautiful vocals. She has a perfect voice to tell personal, emotional tales, and that is exactly what Grace delivers here; the song opens with a feeling of just sitting on a porch at a cottage (thanks to the clever, and subtle, use of birdsong) just sitting and contemplating loves lost...perhaps in a big, chunky sweater and a great big mug of tea. I also particularly appreciate that "Here We Go Again" does not lull itself into a plod musically, but gradually builds, never adding urgency, or throwing off the vocal rhythm, but giving the track a further depth (and I'm always a sucker for cello. Always.)
This is a song that feels like autumn, feels like October from top to bottom, and is exactly what I am looking for when it comes to a more subdued, chilly day playlist, perfect for some introspection, or just to feel the fall sun on your face.
The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
