DSD October 6, 2017: "Morning Velvet Sky" - GULP

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Morning Velvet Sky - GULP

Cardiff-based "garage space-pop" band GULP's most recent single, "Morning Velvet Sky" is a trippy, dreamy piece of pop music that I feel list just perfect for your Friday Daily Song Drop.

Check the track out below:

I love how GULP use a combination of modern, snyth-y pop music mixed with grounded acoustic instruments to create an unique sound that is fascinating and addictive. "Morning Velvet Sky" feels like time-travelling in pop--there are bits that feel post-modern, combined with elements of the psychedelic era, all tied together Lindsay Leven's vocals that...honestly would not feel out of place on a high-concept pop album from any era since the 1980s. This is a pop song for pop fans, as it's flawlessly produced, and technically perfect despite so many moving pieces and seemingly incongruous elements smashing together.

Honestly, I have had "Morning Velvet Sky" on high rotation in my days since the first time I've heard it, and that is not going to change anytime soon--I cannot tell you how great this track is to listen to while travelling (especially via train, watching the world float by, feeling all space-y).

The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.

You can also, as always, just listen to the Spotify list right here:

ICYMI (somehow) here are the August 2017 DSD Playlist July 2017 DSD PlaylistJune 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List, a July '17 Spotify List & an August '17 Spotify List

If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the Apple Music playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
