DSD November 16, 2017: "Hollow" - JOME

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

Hollow - JOME

Los Angeles based Indie pop duo JOME released their debut album Tunnels earlier this month, and if you are looking for thoughtful, peaceful pop, then you definitely need to check it out--case in point, have a listen to the first track off of the album, "Hollow" below:

I really like the way "Hollow" starts out, giving you a sense of an energy just bubbling beneath the track (and indeed, the whole album), but even though "Hollow" kicks into a more lush, cinematic soundscape, it still has all of the chill pop hallmarks of a JOME track. The laid-back vocals are a standout here, as they keep you engaged with the track, but also trend slightly toward what you might hear balancing a much higher tempo electronic track (again, that energy I spoke of earlier ripples along the vocals something fierce). "Hollow" is an indie pop track that you are going to get stuck in your head for days, and I'm impressed by how I keep hearing new things every time I listen to it.

I obviously recommend you check out the rest of Tunnels if you dig "Hollow", but if you're looking for a couple of my favourites, be sure to check out "Mountains" and "Concrete".

Y'all aren't going to believe this...but for what feels like the first time ever: both the October 2017 Apple Music Playlist and the October '17 Spotify Playlist have every track we talked about on them.
That also, for some reason, meant that it was a list that took a little time for me to get together, but once I got the first few songs figured out (always tricky trying to nail down how to start) everything seemed to click right into place.

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
