DSD November 28, 2017: "Man in Tie Dye" - No Suits
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Man in Tie Dye - No Suits
I never know what I am looking for until I find it when it comes to putting the Daily Song Drop together, and sometimes I just randomly stumble across a song, and it immediately becomes our song of the day...and that is exactly what happened with the funky downtempo "Man in Tie Dye" by Los Angeles' No Suits.
Check out the official video out below:
There is so much to love in "Man in Tie Dye": the combination of downtempo (which most of the rest of No Suits' music trends more heavily toward) and the undeniably retro funk vibe is perfect. I never knew I wanted funky downtempo, but now it's pretty much all I can listen to today. I think the way the way that it works modern indie electronic elements together, with a song that is perfect to strut down the street in 70s New York is super clever, particularly because it is all hung together around the delightfully monotone vocals that tell you a feel-good story about digging on music, and just loving being yourself.
I feel better every time I listen to "Man in Tie Dye", and I feel like you are going to as well...especially if your first listen is on the video above, where you can just flat-out enjoy the hell out of Terelle Roberts' dancing (in fab shoes).
I grabbed No Suits' EP Virgin right after grooving on "Man in Tie Dye" for a while and it is quite wonderful. "Tie Dye" is by far the funkiest track, with the other three trending more toward downtempo, but still maintaining a cool, retro vibe, with a particular favourite of mine being "Queens (ft. Jackii & Danny Dwyer)"
For what feels like the first time ever, both the October 2017 Apple Music Playlist and the October '17 Spotify Playlist have every track we talked about on them.
That also, for some reason, meant that it was a list that took a little time for me to get together, but once I got the first few songs figured out (always tricky trying to nail down how to start) everything seemed to click right into place.
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
