DSD November 9, 2017: "Golden Age" - Late Night Episode
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Golden Age - Late Night Episode
As of right now, it is currently -15*C and snowing (to the tune of almost a foot of snow on the ground) and, I don't know about you, but for me, that usually means that I am looking for an upbeat, pick-me-up song, and New York indie alt-rock band Late Night Episode has exactly that in their latest single "Golden Age".
Check out the official video for the track below:
I love the sound of "Golden Age": Daniel Lonner's retro-tinged, yet totally modern (with even a bit of a garage-y shout rock feel) vocals, the juxtaposed acoustic and electric guitar bouncing between the verses and the chorus, and the perfectly rounded bass/percussion balancing everything...this is an indie alt-rock track that has been produced so beautifully that the sum of the parts become so catchy, that even after the first listen, I had the chorus of "Golden Age" lodged in my head (I'm thinking, permanently). Late Night Episode also comes across as one of those bands (that I adore finding) who make it feel, in their track, that they love playing together--there's a fun, almost jubilant energy behind "Golden Age" that makes it all the more listenable.
Plus, who doesn't love a little "get off the internet, go out and do shit" vibe in their alt-rock?
If you are looking for radio-ready indie alt-rock, then you need to be keeping your eyes peeled for Late Night Episode's forthcoming EP, but in the meantime, be sure that you check out their other singles, "Talk About Love" (whose chorus even blends in some folk-stomp/electro-funk elements) and "Swim" (a real indie-alt that shows some early 2000s college rock influences).
Y'all aren't going to believe this...but for what feels like the first time ever: both the October 2017 Apple Music Playlist and the October '17 Spotify Playlist have every track we talked about on them.
That also, for some reason, meant that it was a list that took a little time for me to get together, but once I got the first few songs figured out (always tricky trying to nail down how to start) everything seemed to click right into place.
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
