DSD December 21, 2017: "Forever" - Percival Elliott

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music

Forever - Percival Elliott

Percival Elliott are an indie folk rock duo from the South Coast of England (made up of Olly Hite and Samuel Carter-Brazier) who craft beautifully thoughtful folk music, like their single "Forever" off of their soon to release debut album Save Your Soul (expected to drop sometime early in 2018).

Check out "Forever" below:

What I really love about "Forever" is that it's a love song, specifically about that momentary feeling of chemistry when you first meet someone special, but it never lapses into the saccharine, but rather captures an atmosphere of that slightly, unsure yearning that we have all felt. The vocals, with their retro-folk rock sound helps to tie this atmosphere together, as you can hear an emotional honestly there that makes the track incredibly open, and I would be surprised if you don't feel yourself connecting with it, and it's theme, quickly.
This is all underpinned by the beautiful use of piano (a Daily Song Drop staple), and a string quartet that when it kicks in, adds to the cinematic quality of the track--"Forever" would be absolutely perfect for a beautifully shot indie drama/romance film.

I usually toss another bit in here, but frankly I just wanted to share the story of how Percival Elliott came to be the duo's name, because I think it's just damn great:

Titled in memory of Hite’s great grandfather, Percival Elliott, born in 1883 was an inventor who created one of the first ice-cream emporiums in Brighton. After discovering a dusty box of trinkets in the back of Hite’s family attic, the untouched time capsule unveiled Percival Elliott’s mysterious inventions, engraved ice-cream paraphernalia, haunted photographs and time honoured war medals. The revelation of these long-forgotten hidden treasures became embedded within the duo’s imagination and musical creativity and thus Percival Elliott was reborn.

I mean, how great is that?

Be sure to keep an eye out next year for Save Your Soul, or if you cannot wait to get a bit more Percival Elliott in your life, try and track down their self-titled EP.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
