DSD December 7, 2017: "Glory" - Chloe Bodur
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Glory - Chloe Bodur
A debut single is a rare occurrence on the Daily Song Drop, but "Glory" by North West London's Chloe Bodur is such a delightful slice of neo-soul/jazz that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share it along to y'all.
Check the track out below:
First and foremost we are going to address the elephant in the room: Chloe Bodur has an absolutely gorgeous voice which coolly wafts across a very chic, lounge backing. "Glory" is very clever in getting Bodur in front early, and letting her draw you in, but then having a beautifully layered neo-soul/jazz song swell in behind her. I'm particularly fond of the use of electric guitar in "Glory", as it wanders between some light funk-soul influences, to even bordering a soft blues rock feeling....again, all held together by Bodur's vocals.
Even if you (like me) are not big on jazz, do yourself a favour and listen to "Glory" from start to finish, because it is an expertly crafted track that takes you on a beautiful journey, perfect for the end of a long day, or a soft addition to a late night playlist to unwind to. With all the hustle coming around the holidays, I know I'm going to need some chill tracks in my life, and I'm sure you will as well.
As this is Chloe Bodur's debut, I don't have anything else of hers to recommend, so I suggest just sticking "Glory" on repeat, kicking back, and watching the snow fall against a window with a drink in hand, and keep an eye out for whatever she is up to next.
Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
