DSD February 8, 2017: "People I Love" - SICK INDIVIDUALS featuring Stevie Appleton
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
People I Love - SICK INDIVIDUALS ftr. Stevie Appleton
While I never covered EDM often on "Tuesday Tunes" (nor do I intend to on "DSD"), there are those occasions where I have to let my inner-DJ out again and relay something along that I think you guys will enjoy; today that is "People I Love" from Dutch DJ duo SICK INDIVIDUALS, and featuring vocals from British singer-songwriter Stevie Appleton. SICK INDIVIDUALS are not household names yet, especially outside eclectic-house fan circles, but I would be surprised if you hadn't at least heard some of their remix work (if you are into dance music--particularly their remix of "I Love It" - Icona Pop), but their unique tracks are also very good.
Case in point, "People I Love" is a pitch-perfect piece of radio ready dance music; Stevie Appleton's vocals floating a feel-good vibe across a beautifully produced piece of melodic house (that piano is all the things). It's not an intrusive house song--while you can tell that it is produced by EDM musicians, this is more of the sort that you can get from later Avicii, or Intense era Armin van Buren.
Check out the song below:
SICK INDIVIDUALS also produced a more DJ friendly Club Mix of "People I Love", but there's just something about the feeling of the original that I liked enough to feature it (though the Club Mix is, in itself, an excellent version of the song to slap into a set). That, coupled with a message that ran especially true for me since 2015 (for those non-Podcast listeners, a year that I spent a large chunk of in cancer screening, and tracking health problems), this is really the best kind of bridge song to get more people to discover some really talented EDM guys (and a pretty damn good singer as well).
I still make playlists for Tuesday Tunes/Daily Song Drop, and the latest one we have released is our Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016
As I said before, you can expect a Dec/Jan super playlist this coming Friday.
See you again tomorrow with another great song!
