DSD April 3, 2017: "Waking Up This Town" - The Ghost of Helags
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Waking Up This Town - The Ghost of Helags
"Waking Up This Town" by Swedish electronica group The Ghost of Helags is a little slice of ambient, melancholy sweetness that almost feels like it is lifted from a dream. There's a hazy fuzz over the song that makes "Town" feel both like it is a song that you remember from some long-past party, and yet fresh, and engaging.
Check out their video below:
The track builds in such a way that it becomes rather sweeping, while still staying grounded in it's own dreamscape--the vocals remain constant (and impossible not to sing along to), while musically "Waking Up This Town" swells into a track that urges you to get lost in it.
The Ghost of Helags' debut EP Shibuya is available now, and honestly, if you are looking to impress some guests, or give a space a bit of effortless cool, you owe it to yourself to get "Waking Up This Town" onto your playlists, and Shibuya into your rotation.
Oh so close to a complete list for the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , but that's alright...there is over 80 minutes of indie awesomeness available for you right now....not to mention...in case you somehow missed it, here is last months DSD Playlist - Feb 17
Plus, if you're interested, there is also an Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016, where I put together my favourite tracks from last year.
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
