DSD May 24, 2017: "Wonderland" - Lantern Brigade
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Wonderland - Lantern Brigade
UK indie folk duo Lantern Brigade have a beautiful track in "Wonderland", and one that I am frankly surprised that I have not heard more since it's release. This song has everything in it for the indie folk fan: the vocals are very pretty, it's musically interesting (adding a few, almost rock elements to make the song stand out from the folk pack), and it's a song that just makes one feel good to listen to...
Check out "Wonderland" below:
The first thing you are going to notice, I am sure, is Dom Street's excellent acoustic guitar work, as it brings you in to Jess Chappell's beautifully pure vocals--this is truly an excellent duo in the sense that they are perfectly complimenting each other in "Wonderland". I love the use of percussion to add greater depth to the track, and almost a bit of an urgency to what otherwise could have just been a simple folk track, but it is, in the end, all about the vocals and the guitar (as it should be for a duo).
I hope we get to hear more from Lantern Brigade soon, as it has been a while since they have released anything.
The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!
ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
See you again tomorrow (with probably another completely different sounding song, so I can hate myself come Playlist time...)
