DSD May 4, 2017: "W8 4 U" - Maxim Ludwig
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
W8 4 U - Maxim Ludwig
Maxim Ludwig's "W8 4 U" is the third single off of his forthcoming album Libra-Scorpio Cusp, and it's a really cool, retro-feeling indie rock track; I get some ballad-rock vibes from the track for sure, the like of which Tom Petty really nailed in the late 80s, early 90s, blended with a modern, indie-alt sound.
Give the track a listen below:
The guitar is fun, the addition of horns is a great change of pace, and all of it just rolls along behind Ludwig's chill vocals. "W8 4 U" is a song that is totally summer road-trip ready; I mean, it almost feels like a song that you've been hearing forever, driving through endless, sunny fields.
Which is something you totally have to do, whether you like it or not, if you're road-tripping anywhere around where I live.
From what I've heard from Libra-Scorpio Cusp, Ludwig has demonstrated a great deal of range in sound on the album; no two songs have the same feel, but all of them are, somehow, Maxim Ludwig. Definitely check the album out if you dig "W8 4 U"--it fully releases early next month, but you can hear a few tracks now.
The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!
ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
See you again tomorrow (with probably another completely different sounding song, so I can hate myself come Playlist time...)
