DSD August 16, 2017: "Hell" - Little Rêd
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Hell - Little Rêd
It was a weird journey for me to get to "Hell" by Little Rêd; I actually heard the Hell - Little Rêd (Tusks Remix) first, and thought "wow, I really enjoy that, but I don't talk about remixes", but decided to look up Little Rêd and discovered that I actually like the original more than I liked the remix....and here we are; today's DSD is the debut single from singer/songwriter Little Rêd.
Check out the track below:
"Hell" is a such a pretty dream-pop song; not only does Little Rêd have a gorgeous voice, but there's a such a beautiful combination of sounds here, between the guitar, the subtle, peaceful beat, and the aforementioned vocals that it all works together to create a song that is not only a treat to listen to, but tends to linger with you for days after you hear it. I particularly appreciate the fact that "Hell" progresses through a few different stages/tempos, and never falls into the indie dream-pop trap of getting drug down into repetition; this song feels like it grows with you, and that's special.
This is a debut single that feels like it is coming from an artist who is completely grounded in her music, and is only going to continue to get better. Little Rêd's latest single, What Love Is, has a much more electro-pop feel (pushing into the territory of reminding me of one of my favourite artists, Chvrches), and it's very good in demonstrating a wider range of what . Little Rêd can offer.
I just couldn't pass up talking about "Hell" on DSD, because it has not left my head for the past few days...
Here's the July 2017 DSD Playlist! We're missing a few tracks this month, which is sad for the Apple Music folks, but you've still got a really solid list this month (if I do say so myself, which I do...*cough*)
We are also now on Spotify! Here is the link to the July '17 Spotify List (which features 1 more track than the Apple Music list).
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
