DSD August 25, 2017: "Tsunami (feat. Curtis Roach)" - AL-X the Great

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Tsunami (feat. Curtis Roach) - AL-X the Great

California based hip hop artist/producer AL-X the Great is an artist I literally just stumbled across today, and as soon as I heart "Tsunami (featuring up-and-coming Detroit rapper Curtis Roach) I knew that I needed to share it with y'all here on the Daily Song Drop.

Check out "Tsunami" below (heads up: lyrics are a bit NSFW):

Positive trip-hop is awesome when it works, and "Tsunami" is one of those tracks that, pretty much as soon as you start hearing AL-X rhyming overtop of whistling/piano/step-beat, it would take a lot of effort not to feel a little bit better, if not start cracking a smile. There's a really good energy behind everything in the track that makes this (for me) a song that needs to be considered for hip hop track of the summer (if not packed into your late summer playlists)--Curtis Roach's guest spot is dope (the kid can rhyme), the whole production (shoutout to Santos) is balanced perfectly allowing both AL-X and Roach to feature around a great song, and it even has an "immediately stuck in your head" chanted chorus.

Recently, AL-X released a new single called Vista Isla (prod. Engelwood), which is a much more traditional hip hop track with a cruising vibe to it, so if you're looking for more of a late night on the town track, be sure to check that one out as well.

Here's the July 2017 DSD Playlist! We're missing a few tracks this month, which is sad for the Apple Music folks, but you've still got a really solid list this month (if I do say so myself, which I do...*cough*)

ICYMI (somehow) here are the June 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

We are also now on Spotify! Here is the link to the July '17 Spotify List  (which features 1 more track than the Apple Music list) OR, here's the whole playlist for July right here:

Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List

If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the Apple Music playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
