DSD August 3, 2017: "Endless Memory" - The Lightning Year

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Endless Memory - The Lightning Year

London indie pop rock band The Lightning Year have only been making music together for under a year, but there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to their first two singles. I've decided to chat with y'all about their debut single, "Endless Memory" if only because it is so super rare that a debut single makes a statement like this one.

Check out the official video below:

Right away, "Endless Memory" hits with a great combination of hazy, modern indie rock, blended in with psychedelic elements (which should get the attention of fans of Tame Impala) eventually building (by the end of the track) into a crescendo of awesome sound--"Endless Memory" is just one of those tracks that takes you on a trek in under 4 minutes, and leaves you wanting a bit more.

Which, if you're me, means you listen to it on repeat for a while, or, you grab their super chill second single  ' The Needle ' and bounce between the two.

The balance between the vocals and the backing is really well thought out, allowing each to take centerstage from each other seamlessly, and at several different point in the song, and end on equal footing in a wall of indie pop rock that I can only imagine is quite wonderful live.

I imagine we are going to be hearing a lot about The Lightning Year soon, and hopefully we will get a few new tracks (or an EP) soon.

Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List.

The July 2017 playlist will be (should be) available this coming Friday (on both Apple Music and Spotify) so be sure to come on back for that...

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig
