DSD September 25, 2017: "Like You Mean It" - Liyv
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Like You Mean It - Liyv
I really like the way that Portland, Oregon's Liyv describes herself and her music:
"That Weird Girl in High School Who Was Too Into Music. I make songs for sad people who like bright colors."
I cannot really describe "Like You Mean It", or what Liyv calls "pastel pop" better than that; check it out below:
Liyv has a very good voice, and I really like the way that she uses it in "Like You Mean It", letting neat changes, loops, and even a bit of humming to give the song such a unique, bright feeling. I have, on more than one occasion now, awakened in the morning, humming this song's opening, and then basically just having to listen to it to get my day going. The synth is also very well used in this track, usually just providing a bit of punch, and a bit of pace--"Like You Mean It" is one of those songs that if it gets used in the right way in the right thing, is going to be absolutely everywhere: it's catchy, it's fun, and it feels good to listen to.
Liyv just released her debut EP It Me at the end of August, featuring songs like "Like You Mean It", and if you enjoy this one, you really cannot go wrong with picking up the rest of the EP...every track is fun, bright, and that little bit sad. A personal favourite from the rest of the EP for me is the very chill "We Could Be Famous"
The August 2017 DSD Playlist is here! This month we are only missing one (1) track, from AL-X the Great, as it is not available...anywhere other than where I put it in here, but it is tradition that we are missing something every month. Also, here is the link to the August '17 Spotify List because....we are on Spotify!
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
