DSD January 18, 2018: "Torn Up" - Denny White
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Torn Up - Denny White
Today on the Daily Song Drop we have "Torn Up", the latest single from Los Angeles-based writer/producer Denny White (who you may recognize as part of the indie-pop duo Golden Coast).
Check out the track below:
White has a unique sound here in "Torn Up" that really stands out in the indie electo-pop scene because it feels more like a mashup of futurist synth-pop, and neo-soul--White's soulful vocals are the perfect binding agent for this song, as he blends layers of sampled beats with synths to add texture to a track that has a helluva lot of potential to break wide. "Torn Up" has a utility to it (when thinking in terms of constructing a set) that would make it incredibly valuable, because not only does it have a club vibe to it, it could both work to give a bit of bounce to an audience, but also (thanks to the heartfelt lyrics) have a slower, more passionate feeling, depending on the situation....and honestly, how late the track spins in an evening.
It's incredibly hard to produce a song like "Torn Up", which makes what Denny White has achieved with this new single all the more impressive, and I cannot wait to hear more from this up-and-coming solo artist.
For the first time ever on theguysfrom.com, here is the December Apple Music Playlist, and the December '17 Spotify Playlist! I decided that, rather than making myself crazy with a hybrid list between the two months (and thanks to the fact that I did a feature-full month) I would put this one together, which just means that the January playlist will be a tad shorter than most thanks to the TGF Top 50 Songs of 2017 (with the in countdown order Apple Music TGF Top 50 Songs of 2017 as Well as the Spotify TGF Top 50 Songs of 2017 playlists here)
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
