DSD March 12, 2018: "abandoned." - Alyssa Thomas
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
abandoned. - Alyssa Thomas
Starting this week off on the Daily Song Drop we have the latest single from up-and-coming pop/soul artist Alyssa Thomas called "abandoned." which you can check out below:
"abandoned" is just the right balance of hazy synth and emotionally grounded vocals. Thomas has blended some of the best, shoegaze-y sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s with a flair of modern, charmingly melancholic lyrics (and again, vocals) to create a track that feels like you're floating through a bittersweet, almost sad dream. I love the fact that she did not over-complicate the sound in "abandoned" as it allows her vocals to truly shine, rather than becoming over-produced and flat--the song lives and dies on the fact that you feel what Thomas is singing about, which is unfortunately very relatable...
I cannot imagine it will be too long before we here Thomas' work in a great little indie film...she has a perfect sound for a forlorn love story/coming of age tale...
If "abandoned." is your first introduction to Alyssa Thomas, and your're looking for more dreamy pop/soul (with a whole lot of the blues), be sure to check out some of her earlier releases with "Confrontation." being a personal favourite of mine.
The February 2018 DSD Apple Music List and February 2018 DSD Spotify List are available! These ones where admittedly tricky as it is a short month (meaning there are fewer songs for me to build the set with), and we are also missing a couple from the lists: "Coward's Castle" by Monti and "highr" by buuzey. However, I have to say that I do enjoy the playlist this month, and I hope you will check it out (at the links above), and share it with your friends!
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
