DSD May 10, 2017: "Greed" - Kings & Culprits

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Greed - Kings & Culprits

Kings & Culprits is an indie alt-rock band from Florida who released their debut EP Know My Name late last year, and "Greed" is just one of those rock songs that is everything I hope for when it comes to gritty/roots alt-rock:

I like that that Kings & Culprits have clearly taken some inspiration from southern/roots rock, and you get a bit of grit, and snarl in "Greed". I love this track's construction, as it moves from a slower verses (with a great turn of storytelling from vocalist Alex Attir), into a more dirty chorus that's ready to be song-along-with from the first listen on. I also have to say, I really like the use of piano throughout the "Greed": it's never overused, but it just seems to appear when the song just needs a little something, and it provides a unique little kick into the track.

I'd wager Kings & Culprits are very fun to watch live, but failing that, if you liked "Greed", I'd say check out Know My Name: it shows off the variety of types of rock that Kings & Culprits are capable, but I really feel like they are at their best when they've got that bit of dirt in their tracks (like this one, or "Shotgun").

The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!

ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

See you again tomorrow (with probably another completely different sounding song, so I can hate myself come Playlist time...)

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
