Tuesday Tunes--March 22, 2016
Shaun Cordingley
BIt of a heavier electronic feel to this weeks' Tuesday Tunes; seems like I was mostly looking for tracks that I could enjoy in the sun, or just relaxing a bit (it was a week). There is one rock song though, just because I know that's why some of you are here...
Also, and I didn't realize this at the time, this might be the most 'worldly' this feature has ever been, with artists from 5 different countries!
The Guys From do not hold the rights to any of these songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music, or re-expose them to things they may have forgotten about.
At the top of each section, will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
The Cherry Pit - Pinkshinyultrablast
Pinkshinyultrablast (an absolutely amazing band name) leads this weeks Tuesday Tunes, and I believe is the first band from Russia, hailing from Saint Petersburg. "The Cherry Pit" is a warm, fuzzy bit of shoegaze-like pop, which the band calls 'Thunder Pop Kung Fu-gaze'--featuring ethereal vocals, but a heavier, energetic rock guitar features throughout. It's catchy, in that weird way that you do not know the words, but it's a song you're more than likely to kick onto repeat...I know I have.
Check out the rest of their vibrant 2016 album Grandfeathered, available now.
Sleepless - Colorstarr
The Australian-American indie electronic trio Colorstarr is next with their ready for summer song "Sleepless". This is another one of those upbeat, poppy electronic songs that could very well be heard absolutely everywhere this summer, as it is very radio ready--it is very easy to imagine hearing this in a shop grabbing sandals and sunglasses, or on a patio somewhere watching the river go by on a hot day.
Their EP Sleepless (featuring 3 songs other than the title track, all kicking to the same, fun vibe).
So High - ODA
Norwegian Pop Artist ODA's debut single 'So High' is one of those indie pop songs that just clicks for me; her breath-y voice, featuring over a simple, well produced hook is one that works on all of the levels when I am listening to pop music. Not only is this catchy, but it is also the right blend of pop stalwarts (easy to sing along to, well thought out music, etc.) that it has stuck with me for weeks. I am looking forward to seeing what ODA comes out with next; particularly if she is leaning to being more of a mellow pop artist...
Anticipation - Holy Bouncer
I promised I would kick you a rock track as well this week, and Barcelona's Holy Bouncer fits the bill perfectly, combining some truly inspired classic rock style vibes, coupled with some indie rock flavour in their track "Anticipation". This is such a delicious blend of drum, retro-cool guitar, scratchy vocals and all-around rock awesome (yes, that is a cowbell) that I just could not forgive myself if I did not pass this along, plus it totally still fits into my upbeat/hangout feeling I'm going for this week.
Tired Boy - Joey Pecoraro
Detroit DJ Joey Pecoraro has one of those tracks that kind of blindsides you the first time you hear it--it's a super mellow, jam that heavily draws on a retro horn/piano bar feel to nail a pitch-perfect song to just relax too. "Tired Boy" would be the kind of song I would absolutely kill to hear at a lounge, just hanging out with friends, and enjoying a chill night.
Or, you know, a song you could just stick on when you're alone, watching the rain, and thinking.
The February Tuesday Tunes Apple Music Playlist, with all the songs put together the way we all like it--it's a good list this month, and it was fairly easy to put together into a set...the lack of folk metal helped, but there is still the odd jump that I would talk you through if I was actually spinning this, but cannot...
The Massive, 2-month (and almost impossible to blend together) December & January Tuesday Tunes Apple Music Playlist is right here. The November Tuesday Tunes Apple Music Playlist and the October Apple Music Playlist is still available of course as well, in case you have not caught those yet (or just need more theguysfrom.com in your life).
Support what you dig! It's soooo much cheaper than anything else out there. You cannot even buy a tea for what one of the songs listed here would cost you...I miss the tea wars...
See you again next week with 5 more Tuesday Tunes!
