DSD October 30, 2017: "Night of the Long Knives" - Everything Everything
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Night of the Long Knives - Everything Everything
British Alternative band Everything Everything makes their second appearance today on theguysfrom.com (with the first being way back in October 2015) with the lead track off of A Fever Dream their fourth album, which was released earlier this year.
Check out the official video for "Night of the Long Knives" below:
Long-time readers are well aware that I am always a fan go artists who twist and blend genres, and Everything Everything are always true to their name--they take little bits and pieces from so many different genres and combine it all into their wholly unique, and amazing sound. "Night of the Long Knives" feels like a combination of indie pop, electro, a bit of hip hop, and even a little bit of blues rock into a song that is a helluva journey, and by the end you may not be sure what happened, but "Night" is going to get into your core and stick there.
I think the thing for me that always makes Everything Everything tracks blend so well together is not just because they are flawlessly played & produced (these lads are excellent musicians), but Johnathan Higgs' vocal gymnastics tie everything together with a ribbon. I literally have no idea how he manages some of Everything Everything's songs, but he always does....
I was a big fan of Everything Everything's 2015 album Get to Heaven, but I think that A Fever Dream is yet another step up for a band that really deserves much more attention, and I hope that if you dig "Night of the Long Knives" that you will check out the rest of their catalog, because there are a lot of great, often danceable, and always cool tracks for you to discover.
The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
