DSD October 19, 2017: "Too Good" - Evan Duffy
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Too Good - Evan Duffy
Los Angeles based composer, arranger, songwriter, and all around dope musician Evan Duffy occasionally does release some of his own originals that have bit of an R&B flair to them (when he's not working on films like Truth, and Furious 7), today I want to share with you his most recent single "Too Good", which you can hear below:
"Too Good" is a subtle, beautiful track that deals with that moment in a relationship when you realize that it's over, which is not a usual song topic (typically it's all about "new love" or that "we're over and I'm great" idea), but it really does give an effective take on that moment we have all had--plus, as an added bonus, Duffy has a great, late-night R&B sound behind it that perfectly compliments the vocals. This is a fantastically produced track that feels like it does not waste a moment--every sound, second by second, needs to be there, and there's nothing that feels like it's too much. This let's "Too Good" maintain a simple beauty to it that makes it really, really effective (and one hell of a track for those late-night/rainy day playlists).
As I said above, Duffy does work a lot more as a composer/arranger than in releasing music, but there are a few singles out there for you if you dug "Too Good", with " I Remember" being a personal favourite.
The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
