DSD October 20, 2017: "Bravado" - DÉMIRA
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Bravado - DÉMIRA
It's a little bit difficult to describe Dutch artist DÉMIRA...she defines her music as "Modern Folk" and it is sort of a combination of pop, folk, electronic and alternative...and really I think the best thing that you can do at this point is just check out "Bravado":
I love the use of horns in "Bravado"--the track has a real, old-school...Mexican Western feel to it, if you combined that with a Bjork...
SEE? DÉMIRA is really hard to describe, but what I do know is that she has a fantastic voice, the song is constructed wonderfully (to the point that I can assure you that you probably need to listen to it a few times to really pick up on everything, and even then you're still going to have more to appreciate), and it's a helluva lot of fun. I have also probably had "Bravado" in my head for the better part of a week, which is saying something about how addictive the sound is, on top of poetic and fascinating lyrics.
DÉMIRA strikes me as one of those artists that would be an absolute delight to experience live, though I am very, very far from The Netherlands, so it may not be a concert I'll ever be lucky enough to check out (but if you, dear reader do, please let me know how it was).
The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.
You can also, as always, just listen to the Spotify list right here:
ICYMI (somehow) here are the August 2017 DSD Playlist July 2017 DSD Playlist, June 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17, DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List, a July '17 Spotify List & an August '17 Spotify List
If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter
If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the Apple Music playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
