DSD October 3, 2017: "James" - Pip Hall

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

James - Pip Hall

Alt-Pop artist Pip Hill released her debut EP James earlier this year, and I have to say that I am a little sad that it has taken me this long to come across it (which is also why I'm making sure that I share it with y'all ASAP).

Check out the title track below:

"James" is chalk full of a dark, dream, ambient sound that I cannot get enough of. Hall's vocals feel like they just pour out of your speakers, rippling along the top of a perfectly balanced combination of percussion and synth that creates an incredibly compelling piece of dark pop. I love the use of blending different audio/vocal tracks to create a real sense of....I don't want to say discomfort, but "James" is a dream of a song that is not exactly a happy dream, but you're going to remember it for a long, long time.

If you enjoy "James", be sure to check out the EP as well for even more excellently produced dark pop, including a personal favourite of mine in "Devil You Don't".

The September 2017 Apple Music Playlist and September 2017 Spotify Playlist are ready! As is tradition, the lists are missing a track ("To Do" (Be Yourself) by LEMZI), but I suppose that's just something that you're going to be used to be now considering the way this always seems to go.

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig
