DSD December 15, 2017: "Photogenic (feat. Zamir) - BrisB

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music

Photogenic (feat. Zamir) - BrisB

Indie UAE/Lagos based rapper BrisB (part of the L.O.S. collective) wraps up this week on the Daily Song Drop with his track "Photogenic (feat. Zamir)".

Check out the song below (and heads up, the lyrics are a bit NSFW):

I am always looking for chill hip hop tracks perfect for late nights, or for cruising to, and "Photogenic" is perfect for that--BrisB & Zamir maintain a high-to-mid tempo in the verses (which as a typical fan of chop, I'm obviously pleased by), and then kick it back into a more mellow vibe chorus (that I found myself mouthing along to by the end of my first listen, which is super-rare for me when it comes to new hip hop). This is all held together by a well-balanced, and unique instrumental, which is highlighted by a hazy, synth-ed electric guitar that flourishes in and really elevated the beat. "Photogenic" is one of those hip hop tracks that sticks with you, and yet you hear something a little bit different with every replay, and I don't think you can ask for much better than that.

If you're looking for more BrisB, be sure to check out the album he dropped last year, Microphone Messiah, which gives you a variety of different hip hop & rap tracks, and explores a young, burgeoning wordsmiths' talent.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

You can also, as always, just listen to the Spotify list right here:

ICYMI (somehow) here are the October 2017 Apple Music PlaylistSeptember 2017 Apple Music Playlist August 2017 DSD Playlist July 2017 DSD PlaylistJune 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List, a July '17 Spotify List, an August '17 Spotify List, the September 2017 Spotify Playlist, and October '17 Spotify Playlist too!

If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
