Throwback Tracks -- December 28, 2017

David R. Smith

Okay. I've only got about a half hour before I need to run away. The perils of trying to get one of these written every week, including during the holidays. So this is going to be a quick list to tide you over to next week where we start the new month and new year. Until then, here are 5 songs written and/or sung by artists who passed away this year. Kind of our memorial to those we lost this year.

2017 was a hard year for me in this respect. I lost two of my top-3 singers; Gord Downie and Chris Cornell. Add Tom Petty and others on top of that, and it was a difficult time. I understand that this is a part of life and we have to accept this. I just can't believe two men whom I loved so much died. I'm just hoping Eddie Vedder can make it at least 3 more days (but hopefully much, much longer.)

RIP to all of these on the list. Thanks for the rock.

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any of these songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new (*cough*) and different retro music, or re-expose them to things they may have forgotten about.

At the top of each section, will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website (if possible...which is totally hit and miss with oldies), so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.

The Last Of The Unplucked Gems - The Tragically Hip

Follow my new channel :RockmosisTV follow my new blog : http://rockmosis.wordpress.com Perhaps one of my favorite Hip songs. Its at the end of Road Apples and really leaves the listener wanting more. Think this soft little riff can go on for 20 minutes straight and I wouldn't get sick of it.

For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) - AC/DC

We roll tonight [We're on tonight] To the guitar bite Yeah, yeah, oh Stand up and be counted For what you are about to receive We are the dealers We'll give you everything you need Hail hail to the good times 'Cause rock has got the right of way We

Slaves and Bulldozers - Soundgarden

Soundgarden - Slaves and Bulldozers I didn't find any videos of this song that weren't live, so I figured you guys would want the whole song with good sound quality. Enjoy!

Breakdown - Tom Petty

One of my favourite Tom Petty songs.

Soulshine - The Allman Brothers

"Soulshine" by Allman Brothers Band, 1994.

That's it. No more for 2017. Hopefully a year from now, I won't have to add another list of 5 artists we've lost, but let's be realistic; it seems to be the trend. Which is a bummer. But such is life.

But hey; we're all still here so let's enjoy it, right?

Happy New Year, readers!
