DSD February 28, 2017: "Deja Vu" - Rich Jones
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Deja Vu - Rich Jones
A Chicago based soul/hip hop artist, Rich Jones has continued bending genres by moving into an indie pop sound with "Deja Vu" off of his 2017 EP Vegas. Jones, who was voted runner up to Chance The Rapper in the 2016 Chicago Reader reader’s poll as best hip-hop artist in Chicago, started working with Las Vegas-based producer Ryan Lofty and taken his sound into a really fascinating blend of hip hop and indie electro pop, complete with with lyrics that just hooked me right in.
Check it out below:
The uptempo blend in the production, combined with some catchy-as-hell keys, all flowing underneath subdued, mellow vocals makes "Deja Vu" one of those songs that just gets better every time I hear it. It actually weirds me out a little bit that I haven't been hearing "Deja Vu" a lot more than I have been...
If this is the first time that you have come across Rich Jones, you really owe it to yourself to check some of his other work out: Vegas is a really good indie pop EP, and his soul/hip hop work is damn fine.
You should also give the Dec 16/Jan 17 Playlist a listen! The February Playlist will be available this coming Friday, with (hopefully) all of the DSD tracks!
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
