DSD March 15, 2017: "Only the Wild Ones" - Dispatch
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Only the Wild Ones - Dispatch
Honestly, if you are at all into indie music, I imagine you already know Boston's Dispatch; they started making music together in 1994 (with their first album being released in 1996), and while they did take a hiatus in the 2000s, they have been back together and making music again since 2011. "Only the Wild Ones" is an upbeat indie folk/rock song that, according to the band, is about those "wild best friends that made anything possible".
Check it out below (and before you decide whether you dig it or not, make sure you get to the tempo kick at 1:30):
"Only the Wild Ones" features a great use of harmony, and (like I mentioned above) shifting the tempo from a more subdued indie folk opening, to an uplifting, and fun track; it's one of those songs that I find myself, even on a hard day (like today), by the end I have a grin on my face, and I'm thinking about those friends of mine who do make crazy nonsense possible.
Let's not pretend we don't all have those friends, and that we don't love them.
This is a great song, and Dispatch say that they will be releasing what will be their sixth studio album later this year, along with doing a big US tour, so I have to say that makes me quite happy as I'm excited to hear what kind of album goes around "Only the Wild Ones".
Well, I tried my best (...like I actually have control over anything when it comes to Apple Music), and even though we are missing a couple of tracks, the DSD Playlist - Feb 17 is out now, and it's pretty damn great.
Hope you enjoy it too!
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
