DSD March 20, 2017: "Lit (Featuring Maxwell Saturday & Buuta)" - King Terry III

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Lit (Featuring Maxwell Saturday & Buuta)" - King Terry III

Sometimes, you just need a good cruise hip hop track, and that is "Lit" by King Terry III (featuring Maxwell Saturday & Buuta). The beat is chill, but provides a great backdrop to three different vocals, yet thanks to WillamGold's production, it all blends together, and while we get tempo shifts, everything flows together to form a great indie hip hop track.

Give it a listen below (and heads up, the lyrics aren't work friendly)

End of the day: this is just damn good hip hop; the beat is modern, but doesn't feel repetitive, the two verses (each with a completely different feel) combine together perfectly, especially when balanced off by the rolling chorus. Lyrically, "Lit" is way more thoughtful, and well constructed than about 90% of the hip hop you're going to hear kicking around radio, and at the end of the day, that is what I look for: sick beat, and lyrics that say something.

At some point, I'm going to have to stop saying that "I don't talk about indie hip hop that much, as I don't know the scene as well" if I keep sharing it...but...I still stand by the fact that I don't know as much, but I'm getting better(?)...at the very least, I know "LIt" is damn good.

Well, I tried my best (...like I actually have control over anything when it comes to Apple Music), and even though we are missing a couple of tracks, the DSD Playlist - Feb 17 is out now, and it's pretty damn great.
Hope you enjoy it too!

Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
