DSD March 7, 2017: "Smoke" - Mosa Wild
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Smoke - Mosa Wild
"Smoke" is one helluva debut single by English indie alternative band Mosa Wild (even if the band was re-tooling after their first work as the Intermission Project). The piano/drum baseline for the track is really clever, as (when it is punched up with strings) it gives the song a real cinematic scope to it. "Smoke" has elements in that feel like they have Springsteen-style weight to them, but maintain a newer, indie sound:
The progression throughout the track feels completely free; "Smoke" rises and falls in energy at all of the right moments, while never losing the sense of its' sound. This feels like an excellent first step into something that could be really exciting from Mosa Wild, and I hope that we get to hear more work from them sooner rather than later.
Though right now, they are touring around Europe and the UK, so if you're lucky enough to be over there, check them out live (and let me know how it was...)
Well, I tried my best (...like I actually have control over anything when it comes to Apple Music), and even though we are missing a couple of tracks, the DSD Playlist - Feb 17 is out now, and it's pretty damn great.
Hope you enjoy it too!
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
