DSD April 14, 2017: "New Lows" - Royal and the Southern Echo
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
New Lows - Royal and the Southern Echo
Wrapping up DSD this week (and to celebrate Good Friday?) is a chill indie alt-rock track "New Lows" by Brisbane-based Royal and the Southern Echo. This track is all about the layered guitars underpinning the laid-back vocals coming together to form a kick-back and relax sort of song (a bit of a melancholy tinge in the lyrics, but that is completely offset by the music...)
Give it a listen below:
Royal and the Southern Echo are super new to releasing music, and I, for one, am looking forward to hearing how the sound develops. "New Lows" is a great start, and I really appreciate how the overall flow of the track, from the opening guitar, to the sunny, ready for a long roadtrip heart of the song, with just the right amount of 1980s style echo to make the song feel like you've heard it, and loved it at some point in your youth...
Weirdly enough (for me at least), much like PLANET from Monday's DSD, Royal and the Southern Echo are also playing The Blurst of Times Festival at the end of the month, so if you're in Australia (apparently, a place I am finding all sorts of music I dig from lately), and you like TGF Songs of the Day...maybe head over to check it out.
Oh so close to a complete list for the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , but that's alright...there is over 80 minutes of indie awesomeness available for you right now....not to mention...in case you somehow missed it, here is last months DSD Playlist - Feb 17
Plus, if you're interested, there is also an Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016, where I put together my favourite tracks from last year.
Remember, if you want me to put these playlists on other services (like Spotify), let me know on Twitter (I've linked it below)
If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the playlists for:
Dec 16/Jan 17
November 2016
October 2016
September 2016
There are other (earlier) playlists available for you if you check older "Tuesday Tunes" articles, or search on Apple Music itself.
See you again next week!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
