DSD April 21, 2017: "Retro Kid" - Retro Kid
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Retro Kid - Retro Kid
Retro Kid (the group) are a group of musicians from Copenhagen who come together to make effortlessly cool indie electronic music, like "Retro Kid". This is a song that feels like it is probably being played at that ultra-swank bar that we all know exists somewhere, but we are never able to find: it's mellow (perhaps even a bit melancholy), but with a beat that gets right into your soul...or at least, if your soul is dressed to the nines and is drinking a perfect martini.
Give "Retro Kid" a listen below:
Using multiple vocalists on top of the rolling drum beat is very clever, as it gives "Retro Kid" a modern dream feel to it, making the song feel timeless, yet maybe from the near future (or the recent past) all at the same time. Deceptively simple construction, and catchy (with a bit of a shoegaze-feeling heart), "Retro Kid" is one of those near-perfect late night indie electronic songs.
Be sure to check out their self titled EP (I know, that's a lot of Retro Kids when you're listening to "Retro Kid" off of Retro Kid's EP Retro Kid) if you dig..."Retro Kid", I am particularly fond of "Under & Over" which is a very nice, end of the night-sort of track.
Oh so close to a complete list for the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , but that's alright...there is over 80 minutes of indie awesomeness available for you right now....not to mention...in case you somehow missed it, here is last months DSD Playlist - Feb 17
