DSD April 24, 2017 "Bare My Soul" - Empathy Test
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
"Bare My Soul" - Empathy Test
Man, I don't even know where to start when it comes to London-based indie electronic duo Empathy Test....they are such a fascinating combination of sounds--you can hear influences from everything from 1980s pop, to sci-fi film soundtracks. "Bare My Soul", Empathy Test's latest single sounds so very familiar (despite being out just this month), and has such a sweeping scale to it...
You just need to listen to it (linked below):
"Bare My Soul" feels like your favourite 1980s pop song got trapped underground with nothing but Blade Runner and Tron, and then emerged in 2017, fully formed into something completely unique unto itself. Empathy Test is the kind of indie electronic that I would love to hear live, in a big ass arena, with thousands of other people who know all of the words.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to know "Bare My Soul" by heart soon enough...
Honestly, "Bare My Soul" was not even the song I was planning on sharing with you guys, that was going to be "Vampire Town", a slightly more up-tempo track, that is just as retro/new wave as "Bare My Soul"...and if you're in for one, you're pretty much going to like everything Empathy Test has to offer.
Oh so close to a complete list for the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , but that's alright...there is over 80 minutes of indie awesomeness available for you right now....not to mention...in case you somehow missed it, here is last months DSD Playlist - Feb 17
Plus, if you're interested, there is also an Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016, where I put together my favourite tracks from last year.
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
