DSD May 1, 2017: "IDEK" - R.E.D.
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
IDEK - R.E.D.
Sometimes I just want a kick back, "don't care" hip hop track, and that is "IDEK" by Florida based artist Rashad E. Davis (R.E.D.) to a T. There's a lot of awful going on in the world right now...and for the last little while, but one of the few good things that ever comes out of times like that is we get really good "fuck it, whatever" songs; "IDEK" (which is "I Don't Even Know") feels like a frustrated shrug of a song.
Check out the official video below (and heads up: the lyrics are NSFW):
R.E.D. has a really good flow in "IDEK"; everything is clear, and precise, where you can hear a sense of annoyed disappointment, without ever wandering into angst/whining territory...the track feels like the way I feel a lot of the time lately (especially if I spend time on social media), and I would imagine it's going to connect for you as well. I mean: it's catchy as hell, very well produced (love the acoustic line), and I've been repeating "I don't even know why" to myself off and on since the videos' 4/20 release...in all sorts of situations...
What I do know, is "IDEK" is going to be heavy in my song rotation for quite a while.
Oh, and shoutout to the guy eating chips in the video...I mean, that's just great...and I now know I need to do that at my next party.
The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!
ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
See you again tomorrow!
