DSD May 18, 2017: "Believe Me, I Will" - The Empty House Band
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Believe Me, I Will - The Empty House Band
Sometimes I feel like we just need a sweet indie track, that largely relies on vocals and an acoustic guitar; "Believe Me, I Will" by London-based Indie folk rock band The Empty House Band fits that bill perfectly.
Check out the official video below:
I like how "Believe Me, I Will" does not over-complicate things; it's largely just about the lyrics/vocals, but gives itself some progression by adding a bit of drums, some harmonies, and even a country-folk tinged guitar solo in at one point. That progression is really key for The Empty House Band here: so many slower, thoughtful indie folk songs get stuck within themselves and never develop beyond their initial idea, but "Believe Me, I Will" manages to keep building, without losing its' initial thread.
Even though it does get dangerously close to sounding a bit country....(you know me (by now, I hope) and my feelings on country music).
"Believe Me, I Will" was actually not the song by The Empty House Band that I had intended on talking about today, as "Jacket" from their 2016 Demos is a catchy, stomp-clap piece of folk that I've particularly enjoyed as well, so if you enjoyed today's track, be sure to check that out as well.
The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!
ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
See you again tomorrow (with probably another completely different sounding song, so I can hate myself come Playlist time...)
