DSD June 2, 2017: "Crying in the Sunshine" - Miniature Tigers

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Crying in the Sunshine - Miniature Tigers

Indie pop rock band Miniature Tigers have been working together for over a decade now, and at the end of 2016 the released their fifth album I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy, with the lead single being the laid-back and summery "Crying in the Sunshine", which I have (admittedly) been sitting on talking about until the weather around here got warmer.

Well today is the day: check out "Crying in the Sunshine" below:

Perhaps that was a little bit selfish of me, as I have been listening to both "Crying in the Sunshine" and I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy ever since spring appeared. There's just something that makes this track so perfect for listening to while lounging around outside in the warm weather...and hopefully not crying...

"Crying in the Sunshine" lives on it's production: it is expertly balanced, letting the warm harmonies, guitar, keys, and clap-style percussion meld together into a cocktail of sound perfect for lounging to (even if the lyrics trend sad, they really melt into the music as a whole). There are few indie pop-rock bands that really nail this sort of hazy, laid-back vibe, but Miniature Tigers have it in spades, especially in "Crying in the Sunshine".

As I mentioned about, I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy is the bands' fifth album, so if this is your first introduction to Miniature Tigers, and you dig what you hear, you've got a whole lot to jump back to and check out.

Here's the May 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (and I'll hopefully be able to add it in later)! It's wonderful, as always, but that should be assumed when I'm making playlists of nothing but songs I enjoy...

ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Remember, if you want me to put these playlists on other services (like Spotify), let me know on Twitter (I've linked it below)

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
