DSD June 30, 2017: "Great Divide" - MAGIC GIANT
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Great Divide - MAGIC GIANT
We first talked about MAGIC GIANT back in the before times (the long, long ago, when I did Tuesday Tunes, in May 2016), and their, high-tempo, fun indie folk track "Set on Fire" and how their sophomore EP was due soon...
Well fast forward a year, and now I'm happy that we get to talk about their debut album In the Wind which dropped last month, and discuss yet another great indie folk song of theirs.
Check out the official video for "Great Divide" below:
"Great Divide" is a much more traditionally paced indie folk song, using a combination of strings and percussion, with a lot of great harmony (and even crowd harmony) work in the lyrics. It's perfectly produced, excellently balanced, and (again) just sounds like a band who absolutely loves what they do.
Quite frankly, if you are into indie folk, you owe it to yourself to listen to MAGIC GIANT, and if you've enjoyed the two songs that we have talked about here on theguysfrom.com, just plunge in and grab In the Wind, as it is, top to bottom, a very good folk album from a band who you are only going to hear more from in the future.
Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
ICYMI (somehow) here are the May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17, DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
