DSD July 3, 2017: 'Mango Trees' - Shy Nature
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Mango Trees - Shy Nature
Starting July off with a bit of British Alt-Rock, featuring some really excellent guitar from Shy Nature in their latest single "Mango Trees" off of their debut album Ten Times Around the Sun.
Check the track out below:
Catchy, sun-soaked alt-rock, "Mango Trees" just feels good to listen to; the guitar (as I mentioned above) is excellent, and adds a lot of dynamism, and just a little bit of snarl to an otherwise very warm song. I think the balance between the guitar (a more traditional alt-rock feel) and the vocals (a softer, warmer, almost pop-rock voice) really juxtapose each other well, give the two, seemingly different feels, an excellent balance.
Shy Nature has a very cool sound thanks to those two parts bouncing off of each other, and if you do pick up Ten Times Around the Sun (which I do recommend if you dig this track), then you will see how the band have managed to play off of this idea across a few different alt-rock tempos and setups to great effect.
Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List...I will also embed the last months' playlist on every Friday DSD.
Come on back tomorrow for our next Song of the Day!
