DSD June 7, 2017: "House on a Rock" - NGAIIRE

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

House on a Rock - NGAIIRE

Papua New Guinea born, Sydney Australia based future soul artist NGAIIRE released her second album Blastoma last year and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed that I had not heard her before now.
My personal favourite track off of the album is "House on a Rock"; check out the official video below:

"House on a Rock" features a great blend of neo-soul and dance, all built around expertly layered rhythms and vocals; this is a song that you have to listen to more than once, as there's very little chance that you will catch everything going on the first time through. That's not to say that "House on a Rock" is too complicated, rather this is such a well constructed track that you will be catching new flourishes, or sub-rhythms on your tenth listen.

If, like me, this is your first introduction to NGAIIRE, do check out Blastoma for even more neo-soul (and even a few tracks that move more into a "dance" feel than this one) that will worm its' way into your head and stay there for days.

Here's the May 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (and I'll hopefully be able to add it in later)! It's wonderful, as always, but that should be assumed when I'm making playlists of nothing but songs I enjoy...

Come on back tomorrow for our next Song of the Day!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
