DSD July 14, 2017: "Oceans" - Little Brother Eli

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Oceans - Little Brother Eli

Back when I first talked about Oxford Indie Blues/Garage Rock band Little Brother Eli, In June of 2016, I mentioned that I was looking forward to their upcoming, full album Cold Tales, and then (apparently) never talked about it at all once it did.
Well today, I'm going to rectify that, and chat about the first track: "Oceans"; check out the official video below.

Buy the album "Cold Tales" NOW! iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/cold-tales/id1086307722 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6mR0AE5tqc21zPebAe2lE8 www.littlebrothereli.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/littlebrothereli Twitter: @littlebroeli Instagram: @littlebrothereli Directed by Mike Wilcox

Little Brother Eli is just one of those bands that I throw out in every (annoying) "rock is dead" conversation I get drug into, and "Oceans" is an excellent example of a modern band making an old school (feeling) rock song. It has excellent guitar work (take a second and appreciate the chord progressions), Alex Grew has a great rock voice, and the entire track is just so perfectly balanced and executed..."Oceans" sounds like what you are thinking about when you say "rock music".

And I 100% mean that as a compliment; "Oceans" is a damn good rock song from a band who should really be garnering a lot more attention, and hopefully as they continue to put in work at festivals around the UK (and release great music for those of us way too far away to see them live), they'll keep on growing so we can get even more blues-y indie rock.

Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!

ICYMI (somehow) here are the May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
