DSD July 27, 2017: "Beach (I Wanna Make You Mine)" - Will Joseph Cook
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Beach (I Wanna Make You Mine) - Will Joseph Cook
There's something sweetly nostalgic about "Beach (I Wanna Make You Mine)" by English Indie Pop Singer/Songwriter Will Joseph Cook off of his debut album Sweet Dreamer.
Check out the official video below:
"Beach" feels like a song that could have been an any number of sugary fun teen films from the early 2000s, or off of an early Vampire Weekend recording; it's got a great pop sound to it, that has that little something that makes it addictive...I don't know if it's because "Beach" Is super catchy, or if it's for the hazy guitar chorus juxtaposed against a bit of acoustic (and general sounds...like a school bell) in the chorus, all perfectly complimenting Cook's vocals...but there is something here that just keeps bringing me back again and again.
If you're looking for a fun, mostly upbeat indie pop album that has definite roots from the early 00s (and you dug "Beach"), make sure you give Sweet Dreamer a look; it's a very good pop album.
...and quite frankly, Cook also makes really fun music videos, with "Girls Like Me" being both a song, and video I particularly enjoy.
Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List...I will also embed the last months' playlist on every Friday DSD.
Come on back tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
