DSD July 31, 2017: "Seeing Colors" - Darci
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Seeing Colors - Darci
Indie hip/hop artist & producer Darci recently released a real change of pace track this month with the definitely electro inspired "Seeing Colors" and it's pretty damn good; check out the track below:
I love how "Seeing Colors" balances itself between being a funky, upbeat EDM track, while still having some R&B/Hip Hop elements (largely in Darci's vocals)...and then all of a sudden, there's what sounds like a digital samisen added in, and my head just melts a little bit. Darci manages to split the difference, making a track that feels laid back, but switches into a higher tempo without feeling jarring, and could easily be used as a track in almost any DJ set.
This is a rare song that, as not only did I know that I was going to share it on the Daily Song Drop the first time I heard it through, but it's a song that even though I have probably listened to it 5+ times (in a row) already, I'm still hearing new bits, new shifts, even a completely new layer (thank you headphones).
Frankly, I had actually be planning on sharing one of Darci's earlier tracks on here, "Arts and Crafts", which is much more of a traditional hip hop jam, but saw that there was a new single to check out, and...well here we are.
But do give "Arts and Crafts" a listen as well, as it's pretty dope in its' own right.
Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List.
The July 2017 playlist will be (should be) available this coming Friday (on both Apple Music and Spotify) so be sure to come on back for that...
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
