DSD August 1, 2017: "Toast" - Smith & Thell
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Toast - Smith & Thell
Decided that we should start August off with a little bit of indie folk pop, and I could not think of a more uplifting song to do that with than "Toast" by Stockholm duo Smith & Thell off of their debut album Soulprints.
Check out the official video for "Toast" below:
Smith & Thell are the purest of pure folk pop duos: you are going to get great vocals and harmonies, some stomp-clap vibes, and some really good acoustic guitar, all put together in one fun package. The chorus of "Toast" is just so perfect as a "life can suck, but whatever, take the good and the bad, and let's drink" kinda song...
There's a bit of a lyrical gut-punch at the very end where I actually said, out loud "wow, what a dick"...it's a really clever ending as it makes you want to loop in the start of track again.
Honestly, I think "Toast" may be one of the best songs for when you are having a bad day that I have ever featured on DSD or Tuesday Tunes....
If you enjoy "Toast", I can promise you that you are going to like the rest of Soulprints, and that you really should check it out/pick it up, because Smith & Thell have put together a really, really solid debut indie folk pop album.
Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List.
The July 2017 playlist will be (should be) available this coming Friday (on both Apple Music and Spotify) so be sure to come on back for that...
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
