DSD August 23, 2017: "Cast Away" - Liberty Ship
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Cast Away - Liberty Ship
Hailing from Sheffield, UK, indie rock band Liberty Ship have been releasing cool, retro tracks for a while now, and their latest single "Cast Away" is exactly that.
Check the song out below:
"Cast Away" is a fun combination of modern and old school, bluesy rock: it is perfect for summer, and has a light buoyancy to it thanks in large part to the fun, rhythm guitar, and the more raw, retro vocals, even leading up to a true-to-rock and roll electric guitar solo. This track is short, and radio perfect, as it feels like and follows a classic (and I mean like, Buddy Holly era-classic) rock blueprint of how to make a single, but adds in just enough of a modern feel to it to prevent it from feeling stale. "Cast Away" is the sort of indie rock track that would, I believe, if it gets picked up and played in a few key places (or say, appeared in a dope film), would lead to a real, deserved explosion in popularity for Liberty Ship.
Sadly, as I am nowhere near the UK, I will not have a chance to see these lads live, but I feel like they would probably put on an amazing show (and if someone does happen to see them/have already, please hit me up on Twitter and let me if I was right).
Here's the July 2017 DSD Playlist! We're missing a few tracks this month, which is sad for the Apple Music folks, but you've still got a really solid list this month (if I do say so myself, which I do...*cough*)
We are also now on Spotify! Here is the link to the July '17 Spotify List (which features 1 more track than the Apple Music list).
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
