DSD September 20, 2017: "Good Enough" - Compass & Cavern
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Good Enough - Compass & Cavern
Colorado indie rock trio Compass & Cavern released Before it Begins earlier this year as a follow up to their EP Mother of Invention and it features some really fun alt-rock tracks like "Good Enough"...
...which you can check out the official video for below:
"Good Enough" is an alt-rock song that lifts structures, and sounds from a few different eras of alt-rock, but trends into something that feels a lot like a late-90s college rock, but with enough modern (and the odd power-rock) flourishes to feel fresh. This is a track that has a sense of timelessness that a lot of the best alt-rock manages to carve out thanks in part to the excellent vocals, but also the fine balance musically ("Good Enough" shifts tempo, but never loses its' energy, which is not only tricky, but is a hallmark of some of that great College Rock I used to love). Great guitar, great percussion, great uses of harmonies; "Good Enough" is a damn fine alt-rock track.
If you enjoy this song, be sure to check out the rest of Before it Begins, or even take a wander back into Mother of Invention, and I am sure you'll find some more indie rock in there that suits your vibe.
The August 2017 DSD Playlist is here! This month we are only missing one (1) track, from AL-X the Great, as it is not available...anywhere other than where I put it in here, but it is tradition that we are missing something every month. Also, here is the link to the August '17 Spotify List because....we are on Spotify!
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for TGF on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
