DSD February 6, 2018: "Pia Pia" - HZ

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

Pia Pia - Hz

Today on the Daily Song Drop we have a super chill R&B track from Brooklyn-based artist Hz in "Pia Pia", which you can check out below:

The first thing that is going to hit you with "Pia Pia" is the absolutely perfect production which all serves to add a slung-back, chill day vibe; the beat, the laid-back vocals, and the little key flourishes that provide kicks of energy are very well used here.
I said "laid-back vocals" but I don't want to give you the impression that they do not have any energy--they do, and a helluva lot--but Hz dedicated that energy to create a track that will not only work as a late-night playlist add (I can promise you, if I were still spinning in clubs, "Pia Pia" would be a high-rotation transition track), but could (and should) be blared out of speakers on a hot day sitting on a balcony/patio/stoop, drink in hand, and just doing sweet-fuck-all.

If you dig "Pia Pia", you have a real dope range of singles to check out from Hz, which shows off the diversity of her sound with the great party grind anthem "Whiskey(prod. Keanu Beats)" or "Violet" and electro-pop infused slice of hip-hop that worms its' way into your head and stays there forever.
I hope Hz has an album in the works for 2018 (or soon, at least), as I would really like to hear what she could come up with in a long-format.

As promised, here are the January 2018 Apple Music Playlist, and the January 2018 Spotify Playlist for the Daily Song Drop. It seems like we are starting off the month with the traditional "one song is missing" (that being "Board It Up" by Nekokat), but all in all it's a pretty fun list to start the year off!
Plus it was not the usual soul-murdering December/January blended list that always drove me nuts every year with its' "two months" of songs to try and fit together.
Who does that?

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
