DSD March 27, 2018: "Hold On" - Duets and Stuff
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music
Hold On - Duets and Stuff
Today on the Daily Song Drop we have the latest single from Swedish indie pop duo Duets and Stuff called "Hold On" which you can check out below:
"Hold On" has a really cool, shoegaze vibe going for it which Duets and Stuff establish right away, thanks in large part to its' hazy soundscape which accentuates the mellow vocals. I appreciate the fact that it seems like the instrumental flourishes in the track are marimba as well, as it does lighten the feeling of "Hold On" rather than allowing it to lapse into a melancholic sound that would drag the song down a bit. It's in the little things that this song shines, as they have a track that feels simple at first, but as you listen to it, "Hold On" unfurls itself, through little notes, a quick guitar, or an ever-so-slight change in tempo to create an engaging, and enjoyable indie pop track.
If this is your first introduction to Duets and Stuff, be sure to check out their other, marimba laced indie pop track "Serve Somebody" which is also perfect for just kicking back to this spring (and in my case, watching the world melt).
The February 2018 DSD Apple Music List and February 2018 DSD Spotify List are available! These ones where admittedly tricky as it is a short month (meaning there are fewer songs for me to build the set with), and we are also missing a couple from the lists: "Coward's Castle" by Monti and "highr" by buuzey. However, I have to say that I do enjoy the playlist this month, and I hope you will check it out (at the links above), and share it with your friends!
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
