DSD March 28, 2017: "Honeycone" - Sad Palace
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Honeycone - Sad Palace
Today I was thinking that I would like a chill indie alt-rock track to get through those mid-week blues here on the Daily Song Drop, and "Honeycone" by Sad Palace fits that to a tee.
Check out the track below:
Every time I listen to "Honeycone" I end up in a better mood--there's such a fine, funky groove balanced in a chill rock track here that feels like I should be listening to it when I'm looking and feeling my best (this is a modern, indie-rock strutting down the road song if I've ever heard one). I like that even with that initial vibe (thank you bass-riff), Sad Palace still take the track for a walk through some lush, hazy soundscapes that give the chorus (and the song as a whole) a unique, modern feel to it that makes it both catchy enough to groove to, but chill enough to just sit back and let it wash over you.
There's also a really well placed (and played) electric guitar solo that feels like the perfect, harder interlude before it swings back to it's strutting best.
If this is your first introduction to Sad Palace and you are looking for some more groovy, alt-rock, be sure to check out "Melody Crux" and the deliciously chill "Frostbeat".
The February 2018 DSD Apple Music List and February 2018 DSD Spotify List are available! These ones where admittedly tricky as it is a short month (meaning there are fewer songs for me to build the set with), and we are also missing a couple from the lists: "Coward's Castle" by Monti and "highr" by buuzey. However, I have to say that I do enjoy the playlist this month, and I hope you will check it out (at the links above), and share it with your friends!
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
