DSD April 18, 2017: "Radio" - Jennifer Kamikazi
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Radio - Jennifer Kamikazi
Long-time music readers here at theguysfrom.com should recognize London-based indie folk singer/songwriter Jennifer Kamikazi, as I first talked about her in November 2016 (and again in my Top 20 Songs of 2016), and now she is back with her new single "Radio", and it's wonderful.
Give "Radio" a listen below:
Again, Kamikazi's beautiful voice and storytelling serve as the heart of her song, though "Radio" does also feature the deceptively soothing acoustic guitar I've come to expect from her music, it uses flourishes of piano, and a bit more of a lush production than some of her earlier releases. This fuller musical production is put to good use, as "Radio" is, as I said, driven by Kamikazi's vocals and lyrics, but the track has a certain richness to it that lends a warm depth that (perhaps if left sparser, despite how sweet Kamikazi's voice is) would become a bit too melancholy without it.
As it stands, "Radio" is an excellent indie folk track by a singer/songwriter whose combination of voice and lyrical storytelling ability should mean we hear a lot more from Jennifer Kamikazi.
Or at the very least, you will hear more of her here on the DSD.
If you still haven't checked out her EP Wildflower...I mean, there's not much more I can do...but you really should. It's great.
Oh so close to a complete list for the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , but that's alright...there is over 80 minutes of indie awesomeness available for you right now....not to mention...in case you somehow missed it, here is last months DSD Playlist - Feb 17
Plus, if you're interested, there is also an Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016, where I put together my favourite tracks from last year.
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
