Freud Division - Damen
Today on the Daily Song Drop we have "Freud Division", the latest single from Swedish indie rock band Damen, which you can check out below:
Sometimes, when I am listening to indie alt-rock, I am looking for something that has a chill, road-trip ready feel to it, and that is exactly what Damen have delivered in "Freud Division" -- there are some hints of Joy Divison/early New Order in the way they use and layer their instrumentation (which you are especially going to hear in the electric guitar), and the whole track takes place at a perfectly deliberate pace. Setting them off in a different direction, however, is their use of modern, bar-rock style vocals that wrap the whole song in such a chill, "hang out with your friends" vibe, and thanks to just a little bit of fuzziness, leads me to believe that "Freud Division" will find itself put to good use on some upcoming summer BBQ playlists.
If this is your first introduction to Damen, be sure to check out their self-titled EP to get a real sense of their range of indie rock sounds, with a favourite of mine being "Drugs (Waiting Room)".
